The Cité des Climats et vins de Bourgogne, in partnership with Esprits de Vins, a training provider approved by the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET®), offers the WSET® Level 1 Award in Wines.
Open to everyone and requiring no prior knowledge, this course provides a structured introduction to the world of wine. It is suitable both for those starting out in the wine industry and for wine enthusiasts looking to acquire a solid foundation of wine knowledge.

The programme covers:

the WSET® Systematic Approach to Tasting;
-
the main white and red grape varieties and their characteristics;
-
the influence of climate, viticulture and winemaking on wine style;
-
the world’s major wine regions and appellations;
-
still, sparkling and fortified wines;
-
the principles of wine storage and service;
-
the key principles of food and wine pairing.
Grape varieties covered include Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Chenin Blanc, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Syrah/Shiraz, Grenache, Tempranillo and Sangiovese.
Theory sessions alternate with the tasting of approximately 40 wines, assessed using the WSET® Level 2 Systematic Approach to Tasting.
